Background: On August 16, 2011, Congressman Jim McGovern and Congressman John Lewis sent a letter to President Obama asking him to issue an executive order to close the SOA/WHINSEC. Due to the phone calls, letters, postcards, and office visits made by SOA Watch activists around the country, this crucial letter was signed by a bi-partisan group of 69 Representatives. Now we need to keep up the pressure by contacting the White House and asking the President to respond. In addition, the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, has begun its deliberations and decision-making. It's time to let them know that the SOA belongs on the list of programs to be cut.
