Journey for Justice - Stop Impunity NOW! PDF Print E-mail
Read a November 14, 2005 San Antonio Express-News article about last years Caravan, "Victim of torture cites army school."

Carlos Mauricio, who along with two other torture survivors successfully sued two Salvadoran generals for torture and human rights abuses, is organizing a bus and speaking tour. The Tour begins in San Francisco in early November and is traveling through the Southwest, planning to arrive in Georgia on November 17 to participate in the vigil at Ft. Benning. This bus tour follows two successful tours organized by Carlos prior to the last two November vigils.

In each of the cities the caravan stops, there will be an evening speaking event hosted by local groups, and a press conference the following morning before driving to the next city.

Carlos Mauricio was a professor at the University of El Salvador when he was abducted in June of 1983. His abductors repeatedly tortured Mauricio in an effort to force him into confessing that he was a leftist guerilla. Mauricio had been outspoken against the military dictatorship and civil war in El Salvador that started in 1979; he believes that this may have been the reason that he was targeted. Mauricio has since established the Stop Impunity Project (or Alto a La Impunidad) for Salvadoran survivors of torture living in the United States.
