Help us make the 2010 November Vigil even better! Print

we can do it!

YES WE CAN!

We can make this year's vigil even better.  In the midst of the Great Recession, racist attacks and laws against immigrants mounting, and wars and occupation continuing in the Middle East, the Obama administration continues previous administrations' policies of using the military to crush social movements in Latin America in order to preserve the status quo for the wealthy and multinational corporations.

Whoever is in the White House and Congress, we must keep the pressure up and demand a closure to institutions like the School of Assassins, and instead invest in peace and education in our communities.

There are many ways that you can be involved in making this year's vigil the best yet.

1. Donate. The movement to close the SOA depends on a wide grassroots network made up of people like yourself. We need your support to cover things like the costs of the stage, renting the convention center, and printing and copying. Please click here to donate with a credit card, or you can mail a check to SOA Watch, P.O. Box 4566, Washington, DC 20017.  Your help is so appreciated!

2. Order Palmcards. A great way to mobilize your community, these glossy, colorful palmcards come in packs of 150 for $6 (to cover the costs of printing and shipping). You can distribute these mini announcements at churches, synagogues, mosques, coffee houses, union halls, student activity centers, demonstrations, house parties, offices, or anywhere a group of people is gathered. Order them here!

3. Volunteer at the vigil! Like the movement itself, the vigil runs on the power of many volunteers. You can contact Nico at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you want help plugging in with a task. There are many tasks that we need help with:

- URGENT! We need two people with some production experience who can help from Friday morning through Saturday evening, supporting the production coordinator in tech help during the convention events and Friday and Saturday night convention events. If you feel that you can help, kindly email Nico at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible!

- Be a Peacemaker. Peacemakers are vital to the smooth flow of Saturday's rally at the gates, as well as Sunday's funeral procession.  They relay information to attendees and to organizers.  Click here to see responsibilities and requirements to be a Peacemaker.  Send your name, e-mail, phone number(s), mailing address and a brief explanation of your interest to Kathleen Desautels at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Help with interpretation. We still need bi-lingual English-Spanish interpreters to help make our vigil a bi-lingual event, as well as people with electronic expertise to help set up the equipment.  Join the Translators and Interpreters working group by sending an email to Leo Gorman at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Join the Puppetistas!  Every year, prior to the November Vigil protesting the atrocities of the School of the Americas, a creative, sometimes crazy, certainly zany cast of characters gather in Columbus, GA from around the country, organize themselves as the inspired Puppetistas and create the puppets and pageantry that has become an integral expression of the SOAW resistance movement.  For more info, contact Jake at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Help with the legislative table! We need volunteers to help people sign postcards and give information about SOA Watch's legislative campaign.  If you can volunteer for a 2 hour shift on Saturday morning and afternoon, at the table on the way to the stage, please contact Theresa at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Join a working group. Working groups are comprised of individuals who dedicate their time to work on a specific area of the SOA watch campaign.  Click here to join a working group.

4. Contact your local group. Connect with them about their Vigil plans as well as local organizing. Set up carpools, organize a film showing before the Vigil, or host a speaker. Don't see a local group for your area? Consider starting one. Contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
