The November Vigil to Close the School of the Americas is THE place where thousands of anti-militarization and justice activists come each year, speaking out and putting their bodies on the line to demand a change of US foreign policy.

Workshops!Likewise, the conference, held at the Columbus Trade and Convention Center, attracts hundreds of participants, through film screenings, popular education workshops, caucuses and teach-ins, and has become an important networking event for those of us looking for an alternative to militarization in the Americas.

This year, the conference will take place Friday, November 16 (following the 10 am rally at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia) and Saturday November 17 (after the main rally at the gates of Fort Benning).

The Conference Working Group has developed the following principles to guide the process of selecting workshops:
  • Develop the analytical tools of the movements fighting US militarism in the hemisphere by fostering dialogue and presenting sophisticated analysis on today‚Äôs principle justifications for US militarism;
  • Develop concrete skills in activists engaged in battles against US militarism;
  • Create a space for organizations and individuals to connect and build alliances in order to strengthen the local, national and international struggles against US militarism;
  • Organize a dynamic conference that spotlights the women, people with disabilities, people of color, queer and transgendered leaders of the movements against militarism;
  • Strive to make the conference bilingual or/and multilingual.

    We ask workshop presenters to make a donation between $275 and $425 to help us cover the cost of renting the Convention Center. If you make a solidarity donation of $325 or more, your name or organization will appear in the 2012 Vigil Program.
