Latin America and Caribbean Solidarity Contingent in the August 29th March and Rally

Sunday, August 29th
Gather at 20th Street and 6th Avenue at 10:00 am
Get Map Of Gathering Point
March steps off at 12:00 pm

The march will head up Seventh Avenue past Madison Square Garden, the site of the Republican National Convention. From there, it will turn east on 34th Street, march to Fifth Avenue, then march down Fifth Avenue to 23rd Street and then march down Broadway. The final destination for the march will be Union Square.

The Bush Administration has continued the US legacy of imperialism in Latin America and the Caribbean through military training, neoliberal economic policies, support for repressive governments and direct political intervention meant to undermine leftist movements. Yet people across the Americas are resisting Bush?s new free trade agreements and opposing US war and military intervention! In solidarity with those struggling for change in the Americas, we will march at the outset of the Republican National Convention to denounce the Bush Administration?s deplorable foreign policy.

Because of the huge diversity of populations targeted by the Bush administration's regressive agenda, the protests around this year?s Republican National Convention are likely to be the largest in history. Hundreds of thousands of community organizers, activists and concerned citizens will gather in New York City to raise their voices in the street and to demand a more just world.

The Latin American Solidarity Coalition (LASC) calls for a Latin America and Caribbean solidarity bloc to march together on Sunday, August 29th in the "World Says No to the Bush Agenda!" march from Madison Square Garden to Central Park. We will gather at 20th Street and 6th Avenue at 10:00 am. The march begins at 12:00 pm.

We will march demanding:

  • No to the US-Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), the Free Trade Area of the Americas, Plan Puebla Panama and all other exploitative economic schemes
  • No to Plan Colombia
  • Close the School of the Americas/WHINSEC and end US military aid and training
  • Close US military bases throughout Latin America
  • Respect indigenous treaty, land, and cultural rights
  • End the drug war's assault on people of color and the poor throughout the Americas
  • No one is illegal - stop the attacks against immigrants
The Latin America Solidarity Coalition (LASC) is an association of national and local US-based grassroots Latin America and Caribbean solidarity groups, many of which have long histories of working with grassroots organizations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
