Joel PettJoel Pett, winner of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, created the "Empire in Decline" cartoon that was published in the Fall 2011 issue of Presente.  His cartoons have appeared in hundreds of newspapers and magazines nationwide, including the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Times of London, and the Boston Globe.  Magazine credits include Time, Newsweek, Business Week, Omni, George, and MAD.  He is a weekly contributor to USA Today and writes a weekly feature on cartoons for the Los Angeles Times.    

Pett also received the 1999 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and the 1995, 2007 and 2010 Global Media Awards for cartoons on population issues, as well as a regional Emmy for television commentary.  He is a past president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, a past Pulitzer juror, and has conducted three overseas seminars on editorial cartooning as a guest speaker of the U.S. State Department.

Pett has also shared his blend of deceptively simple and provocative humor as a guest lecturer at hundreds of venues, including The Newseum, the John F. Kennedy Library, Indiana University, Whitman College, Ohio State University, Brandeis, and many more.
