Gran OM PDF Print E-mail

The Spring 2015 issue of ¡Presente! included a poster about the disappeared 43 students from Guerrero, Mexico by Omar Inzunza, better kown as Gran OM. Omar is one of Mexico’s most recognized wheatpaste and poster artists, who works in the rich political propaganda and gig poster tradition and combines them into contemporary street art. Gran OM’s style has been influenced by social movements like the Zapatistas, Black Panthers, and Occupy and communicates political ideas in a straight forward fashion. A common theme of his graphics is the reflection on social issues, political change, and human needs. Gran OM has also extensive experience as a director of films and music videos. With close connections to the politically conscious reggae and rap scene in Mexico, he creates clips that make conflicts visible, and question the logic of a commercially driven music industry. One of his most recent videos is for the song "Ayotzinapa Ruge."
