Protest Corporate Crimes of Chiquita, Drummond & Coke against the people of Colombia!
November 18-20; Cincinnati, Birmingham, & Atlanta
Wednesday, November 18; CHIQUITA 3:30 pm,250 East 5th St., Cincinnati, Ohio
Start your weekend with an action at the Chiquita Brands headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. Chiquita is the only U.S. Corporation to plead guilty to violations of the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act. In 2007 they agreed to pay a $25 million dollar fine for their support of the Colombian paramilitaries, but none of the officers have been charged or held accountable. We demand that Chiquita pay compensation to the victims’ families and the corporate officers be held criminally liable.
Thursday, November 19; DRUMMOND 3:30 pm (Site TBA) Birmingham, AL
Follow up the Chiquita action with a presence at the Drummond Coal Co. headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The Drummond Corporation has been accused of serious human rights abuses of Colombian workers, including the deaths of three union leaders. Again we demand compensation and accountability.
Friday, November 20; COKE 11 am, 121 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, Georgia
Lawsuits are pending in the United States against Coca-Cola and its Latin American bottler, Coca-Cola Femsa, charging that Coca-Cola’s bottlers in Colombia “contracted with or otherwise directed paramilitary security forces that utilized extreme violence and murdered, tortured, unlawfully detained or otherwise silenced trade union leaders.”A SINALTRAINAL union officer summed up the seriousness of the situation, stating: “If we lose the fight against Coca-Cola, we will first lose our union, next our jobs and then our lives.”
Let us know if you need housing at the Cincinnati and/or Birmingham venues and whether you’ll be joining us! For MORE INFORMATION contact Ken Crowley at Witness for Peace, 773-564-9535 or 202-423-3402, Ken@witnessforpeace.org
