About the Direct Action Training Camp PDF Print E-mail

Ft Benning Water Tower

The SOA Watch movement has always used direct action and civil disobedience to carry the message of anti-militarization to a variety of arenas.  We walk in the footsteps of thousands who have lead the way for social justice through action. As we look into the 2012 election year, it's time to brush up on our skills and hit the streets!

Our April Days of Action will kick off with a Direct Action Training Camp, from April 11-13, 2012.

Our vision:

The SOA Watch Direct Action Training Camp will be held from April 11-13, 2012, for the purpose of reinvigorating the ongoing nonviolent civil disobedience and direct action campaign of the SOA Watch movement.

The time together is intended to
* ground the movement activists in the theory as well as practice of nonviolent direct actions;
* support the camp participants in actions to confront militarization, and
* provide leadership skills to use in their communities.

We envision workshops and trainings that focus on a historical analysis of movements that have used civil disobedience strategies, as well as current examples of direct action in movement building, and hands-on practice of tactics.

We are committed to building a diverse and accessible space, which includes, but is not limited to,
* prioritizing trainings led by those directly affected by militarization;
* encouraging the participation of working class, people of color, women, immigrants, and LGBTQ communities,
* providing scholarships; and encouraging bi-lingual or multi-lingual trainings.

Please check back continually for registration information! And stay tuned for email updates about the camp!

* enseñar a activistas de bases en tanto la teoría como la práctica de acciones no violentas;
* apoyar participantes del campamentos en acciones para confrontar la militarización;
* dar capacidades de liderzazgo para utilizer en sus comunidades

* priorizando entrenamientos liderados por personas directamente afectadas por la militarización;
* alentando la participación de la clase obrera, personas de color, mujeres, inmigrantes y comunidades LGBT,
* animando la realización de entrenamientos bilingües o multi-lingües
