SOA WATCH DIRECT ACTION TRAINING CAMP

April 11-13, 2012

We are NO LONGER accepting applications for the SOA WATCH DIRECT ACTION TRAINING CAMP, which will be held at the beautiful Wayside Center for Popular Education, in Faber, VA, and the Greenpeace Climbing Warehouse outside of Washington, DC, this April 2012.

WHERE: Wayside Center for Popular Education (approx 3 hour drive from Washington, DC)
WHEN: Wednesday, April 11 – Friday, April 13, 2012. (You may wish to arrive at the camp on the evening of the 10th, as trainings will begin on the morning of the 11th)
WHO: YOU! Women, people of color, youth, transgender, immigrant, elderly, queer, working class, and differently-abled individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.

Tripods

REGISTRATION fee of $150 will cover food, accommodation, shuttles, and cost of training. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tents and sleeping gear, as we will be camping! (Fundraising to cover your costs for the camp is a great way to spread the word about the SOA/WHINSEC! Check here for some great fundraising tips. We have limited partial scholarships available for the camp.)

Trainings include:

Building a movement: Brush up on your knowledge about the SOA and the movement to close it. Learn skills to facilitate meetings, organize your networks and create new alliances, within an anti-oppression framework

Action Planning and Coordination: How to make your actions fit within your broader strategy, as well as understanding the purpose (and history) of direct actions. Understand your legal rights and risks.

Fundraising and Media Communication: Learn how to spread the word about your work. Learn and share tactics on effective fundraising in your communities.

Plus climbing training, blockades, bringing art and culture into your organizing, building puppets and more! Take the skills learned at the SOA Watch Direct Action Camp back to your communities!

Ya NO ESTAMOS aceptando aplicaciones para el CAMPAMENTO SOA WATCH DE ENTRENAMIENTO EN ACCIÓN DIRECTA, lo cual se dará lugar en el hermoso Wayside Center for Popular Education, in Faber, VA, y la Bodega de Entrenamiento de Greenpeace en las afueras de Washington, DC, este abril del 2012.

DÓNDE: Wayside Center for Popular Education (aprox 3 horas de Washington, DC)
CUÁNDO: Miércoles 11 de abril a viernes 13 de abril, 2012. (Puedes llegar al campamento el día 10 por la noche, puesto que los talleres comenzarán el 11 por la mañana)
QUIÉN: TÚ! Mujeres, personas de color, jóvenes, personas transgéneras, queer, inmigrantes, personas de tercer edad, de clase trabajadora, y todas personas de comunidades no dominantes son fuertemente alentadxs a aplicar.

Un COSTO de inscripción de $150 cubrirá la alimentación, hospedaje, transporte, y el costo del entrenamiento. Recomendamos que participantes al entrenamiento traigan sus propios tiendas de campas y sacos de dormir, ya que estaremos haciendo campín! Talleres cubrirán:

Construyendo un movimiento: Participantes actualizarán su conocimiento sobre la SOA y el movimiento para cerrarla. Aprenderán como facilitar reuniones, organizar grupos y crear nuevas alianzas, dentro de un esquema anti-opresión.

Planeación y coordinación de acciones: Entender como las acciones caben dentro de una estrategia más amplia, tanto como entendimiento del propósito (e historia) de acciones directas. Entenderán sus derechos y riesgos legales.

Recaudación de fondos y trabajo mediático: Participantes aprenderá difundir el mensaje de su trabajo. Aprenderán y compartirán tácticas en recaudación efectiva en sus comunidades

Adicionalmente, habrán talleres de escalada, bloqueos, juntando arte y cultura a su trabajo, construyendo títeres y más! Lleva las capacitadas formadas en el entrenamiento a tu comunidad!
