Sending Solidarity from Students and Educators to Stop the War Conference to SOA Watch in Columbus, Georgia

November 19, 2005

The hundreds of students, educators, other education workers, and community members gathered in Los Angeles today send their greetings and solidarity to you in Georgia. We fervently add our voices to your struggle against the most blatant example of American imperialism and war-mongering: the School of the Americas/WHINSEC.

Thank you for being on the frontline of what must be a multi-faceted confrontation of a government that lies to, disenfranchises, represses, jails, and murders those who struggle for self-determination both abroad and at home. We join in your demand to close this school; this training ground for those who go forth to defend the interests of a corporate class that cares nothing for the people of the world. We as students and educators pledge to go forth to share what we learn today with those we come in contact with on our campuses and in our communities.

Our conference today is dedicated to Joe Hill, labor organizer, who was executed 90 years ago today. We are sure that he would be in the frontlines of those opposed to this war, and opposed to the attacks on working people throughout the world. We plan to go forward from this day--and with his words we urge you to do the same -- Don't Mourn, Organize!
